What “Hearth” Means to Us

A hearth was never just a place to cook. It was where a family gathered, where food was prepared with intention, and where the day slowed down enough to matter. That idea, more than any single recipe, is what A Dog’s Hearth is built on. We wanted to bring that same spirit, care taken, nothing rushed, into how we feed our dogs.

Where This Started

Long before there was a business, there was a dog named Chase. For eighteen years, he didn’t just eat home cooked meals, he thrived on them. That story actually spans two generations. My dad cooked for our dogs long before I did, and when it became my turn to take the lead, I was simply carrying forward something he had already been practicing for years. Chase lived that legacy.

That experience is the quiet foundation everything else is built on. It’s not something we point to as proof of anything. It’s simply where the belief came from that food made with attention, passed down and practiced with care, can be part of a good, long life together.

Global Reach, Local Hands

Before A Dog’s Hearth, I spent years working with the United Nations, in communities across the globe, focused on helping people make healthier choices for themselves and their families. That work shaped how I think about care. Sometimes the people or beings who would benefit most from a healthy choice are not the ones who get to make that choice on their own. Someone has to make it thoughtfully, on their behalf.

Our dogs are exactly that. They can’t read an ingredient label or choose what goes in their bowl. That responsibility falls to us, and we take it seriously.

Our lamb recipe reflects both halves of this belief. The lamb is grass fed and sourced from New Zealand for its quality and consistency. From there, it’s brought here to Queens, where we work with a local butcher we know by name to prepare it for cooking.

Global sourcing, local hands. That combination, a healthy choice made thoughtfully on behalf of someone who can’t make it alone, is what we mean when we say this is food culture applied to dogs.

What This Means for Your Dog’s Bowl Today

Every batch we make still comes from that same hearth mentality. Simple ingredients. Thoughtful preparation. Nothing rushed, nothing shortcut. Whether it’s the recipe your dog eats today or the ones still ahead of us, the intention stays the same.

From our hearth to yours.
